The Role of Trauma In Israeli Palestinian Conflict

As a mental health therapist, who has spent most of her life working with traumatized people, it seems a plausible that the dominate culture for both Israel and Palestine is more trauma than anything else. It is an accepted fact that trauma can and often does change the human brain. http://www.leadershipcouncil.org/... There have been studies linking brain changes to war trauma and childhood abuse. These changes in the brain have social consequences but we don't often talk about how these changes can affect a world view. When people live in chronic fear, and chronic hostility, they sometimes develop changes in how they perceive the world. They may develop a habit of perceiving themselves as powerless victim, or they may perceive hostility where none exists. My suggestion, is that we might try looking at the Israeli Palestinian conflict as a conflict between "victimized people".  Follow me over the fold for discussion about how to treat this problem...that might just work!!
